MASR Adoption Process

We are an all volunteer-based organization. Most of our volunteers work during the day and are rescue heroes by night!  Be patient and kind to our people!  They are the reason that we can save the Aussies that you want to adopt.

Want to adopt a new family member?  You HAVE to fill out an adoption application and it must be processed and approved before you can meet any of our pups. We try our BEST to answer each email, message and applicant.

Here is what happens behind the scenes:

An MASR volunteer will review your application to determine if you and the dog are a potential fit for each other or if we could possibly have another dog for you that would be a better fit.  Our goal is to match each pup with a human that matches their energy level, needs and wants. We want the match to be for life. We want you to both bring each other joy, love and laughter.

We require a virtual home visit before we start processing your application.  That requires photos or videos of your home to be emailed to

We do not require a fenced yard for every dog; for us it depends on the dog’s needs.  We do not allow the use of any underground or invisible fencing.

Once we have those, we contact your veterinary reference and your personal references. Next, we will contact you via email to schedule a telephone adoption counseling session. During the telephone chat, we will discuss many things, but most importantly, what available pups might be a match for you.  If a dog is a good fit, you will be connected to the foster home where you can learn more about the pup. Then you schedule a meet and greet with the foster home. During the meet and greet, the pup, you and the foster will decide together whether it is a good match.

We have a mobile friendly adoption agreement that requires your signature and the adoption fee will need to be paid in order to make that pup part of your family.

AFTER THE ADOPTION You are now a Midwest Australian Shepherd Rescue family member!  We will always be here for you.  We love getting updates!  We will be here to offer any guidance or resources you may need at any time.  We can even provide some training tips, if you run into a snag with a new behavior. Mostly, we wish you love, joy and laughter with your new family member!
